Depaul International is proud to be a part of the World’s Big Sleep Out, an amazing one off opportunity to do something on a global scale for homelessness. The event will bring together an estimated 50,000 people in locations across the globe to sleep out under the stars in unison to create the world’s largest display of solidarity and support for those experiencing homelessness and displacement. Together, the events are aiming to raise $50 million to make a transformational impact on the lives of 1 million homeless and displaced people worldwide.
Sleep outs are being held across the world on Saturday 7th December and, if you are interested in participating, you can find your nearest sleep out via the dedicated website. The flagship UK London event will be in Trafalgar Square attended by a vibrant mixture of the city’s business leaders and influential figures and residents alongside people working amongst homeless and those who have lived experience of homelessness. 2,000 people will brave the cold from 7pm until 6am the following morning. Highlights of the event will include live performances from leading artists and Dame Helen Mirren performing a ‘bedtime story’. Due to demand already a secondary London location has been secured at The Kia Oval opening up the opportunity for thousands more to participate.
In addition to the UK, Depaul charities are participating in events across the the USA, Ireland, Croatia and Ukraine. As well as raising money for charities that make a difference, this global event will promote compassionate political policy to find solutions for homelessness locally and the global refugee crisis.
